We are thrilled to announce that we have been listed as a Strategic Challenger in the Digital Learning market on the Fosway 9-Grid™. For the last three years, we secured a spot as a ‘Potential Leader’ on the grid. And move to ‘Strategic Challenger’ this year is not only a testament to our hard work, but to the changing mindsets in L&D.
2020 was a challenging year for all (you don’t need us to tell you that!) And with that, the digital learning industry saw an uplift in demand. Those organisations that were very much wedded to the physical classroom had no choice but to down tools and shift their approach. But this change will not disappear when we return to “normalityâ€. In fact, only 1% of organisations have said they will return to their pre-Covid approach to training after the pandemic ends.
The evolution of the workplaceÂ
The pandemic acted as an inflection point for the digitisation of the workplace. Working from home has become the ‘new normal’, and will continue to be after the pandemic is over – in fact 59% of workers want to maintain this flexibility in the future. And digital learning has played a pivotal role in this transition to a more agile workplace.
What’s more, this increase in flexibility has also led to workers reevaluating their careers, and the style of work they do – with many opting to join the growing gig economy. This is another area of workplace evolution that is unlikely to return to its pre-Covid ways. In fact, Gali Arnon, Chief Marketing Officer at Fiverr says the gig economy is where e-commerce was 20 years ago. Echoing our sentiments here at Jam Pan, that flexible, freelance workers are the future.
The changing learning landscape
Alongside the evolution of the workplace, Fosway’s report also shows the transformation of the role of learning in organisations in the last year. Many organisations scrambled to buy eLearning content throughout the pandemic. But this plethora of content does not equal effective learning. And now, many buyers are under pressure to rationalise their burgeoning content portfolios, as stakeholders want evidence of behavioural change and value-for-money. Instead of content-centred learning, organisations are shifting to human-centred learning design. In fact, Fosway claims that in the past year, this has become more important than instructional design.
Here at Jam Pan, we’ve witnessed this transition first hand. As well as an overall uplift in organisations utilising the external marketplace for digital learning, we’ve also seen some significant transitions in specific roles. Notably we’ve seen a:
- 325% increase in demand for freelance project managers
- 375% increase in community managers
- 50% increase in learning experience designers.
