Game on! Inspired learning through game play and global competition for DHL

Gamified learning solutions and a global leaderboard to compete in

Customisable avatars and a little friendly competition help DHL employees stay motivated while mastering skills that are critical to business operations.

The challenge

DHL wanted to make its required employee learning more engaging and effective. Traditional LMS approaches struggled to motivate participation and apply knowledge. DHL needed a unified hub to manage game-based learning that leveraged psychological techniques to inspire employees to complete training.

The solution

We integrated a gamified learning platform with DHL’s Cornerstone LMS. Employees personalise avatars, earn points and badges, and compete on leaderboards – satisfying needs for status, achievement, and recognition. Scenarios and quizzes based on DHL’s content increase comprehension and retention. Managers access data analytics and tools to track participation. The system harnesses proven motivational techniques like personalisation, goal-setting, and competition to turn required learning from a chore into an engaging experience.

The outcome

By leveraging gamification psychology, DHL created a unified hub that makes learning more appealing and impactful. Employees stay motivated while mastering skills critical to DHL’s operations.

Early results show:

  • 726, 000 completions of compliance training modules
  • 21% return rate within 30 days
  • Returning user have played the games between 3-5 times
  • User feedback of 4.8/5

From the client

I am very pleased and proud of the solution we have developed with our partner Jam Pan. I feel this project will be a game-changer in the way we can offer gamified solutions in a standardised and scalable way to ALL our employees, without having to invest heavily in external vendors each time we want to introduce a new learning game. This will help us a lot in bringing engagement and increase the content uptake, and contribute to the democratisation of learning, instead of offering these types of solutions to small selected groups using external systems or solutions.
